Leaving Cert Chemistry: Laboratory Skills & Techniques

Methods home for genuinely cross-cutting practical skills that are not specific to one topic: purification and separation techniques, qualitative ion-identification tests, data handling/graphing, and laboratory safety. (Topic-specific experiments are mapped to their topic strand above, following the Biology precedent; only generic techniques land here.) - Draws on techniques threaded through the syllabus: recrystallisation and melting-point determination (exp 7.1), paper/thin-layer chromatography (exp 7.7), steam distillation and solvent extraction (exp 7.6), tests for anions (exp 2.1) and gas/ion identification, reaction-rate and titration-curve graphing, and the syllabus's general requirement to appreciate experimental error, hazards and safe technique.
